1st day of school

1st day of school
  • 1st day of school!  A big day in our house as this year, EVERYONE (except me!!) was headed back.
  • Everyone had a short day, but the logistics of getting everyone everywhere they needed to be on time was a little tricky.  It took us about 15 minutes and a written schedule to figure it all out.
  • Lila, you bounced out of bed this morning with a big smile.  To be honest, I was NOT expecting that.  It kind of threw me off a bit.  You did your job, got dressed, had breakfast and got ready for school with no problems.
  • Jane and Katie, I had to wake both of you up.  You weren't super happy to be getting up.
  • I made scones for breakfast as a motivator for everyone to eat breakfast.  Katie, you and daddy have a hard time eating when you're nervous.  You managed one whole bite before you just couldn't eat any more.
  •  Daddy left first.  Poor little guy.  It's hard to go back to work after a couple months off.
  • Lila, you started first.  When we arrived at your school, you were greeted by a happy chorus of hellos and hugs from your friends.  You lined up at your class and went in without a backward glance.
  • George, we went into the school and did a quick check in to let them know you would be attending this year.  You're so excited to start kindergarten.  Your first real day will be tomorrow.
  • Katie, you started next.  We drove up to your school, but because of the timing of everything, you were about an hour early.  I was going to just drop you off, but you asked me to stay, so we hung out for about half an hour until a couple of your friends showed up.  You even let me hug you and take a couple photos!!  You were so nervous, your stomach was in knots and you were really tense and quiet.  I wish I could have done more for you.
  • George, we headed back to Lila's school to pick her up, then came straight home to get Jane Jane.
  • Jane, I loved your outfit.  You had a long in depth discussion with me last night about your strategy for outfits this week.  You decided that you wanted to look 80% cute today.  Tomorrow you will look 100% cute, but you couldn't be too cute today, because those people just aren't ready for that.  And then next week you'll pull out your gothic look.  You crack me up.
  • Jane, we dropped you off at your new school.  You were nervous and said you felt like you couldn't quite breath, but you looked cool as a cucumber.
  • George and Lila, we came back home and waited for one of the girls to text us for a ride home.  Jane texted first and told me the funniest story.  She actually went to the wrong school.  There's a different school on the second floor that she went to by accident.  She stayed for the whole orientation and didn't realize she was in the wrong place until her principal came upstairs for some reason and saw her...and asked why she was up there.  Lol.  Oh Jane, only you could go to the wrong school, not realize it for an entire hour, and then laugh about it.
  • Jane, I drove you up to the Village to meet your friends, and met Katie there as well.  She had gone there with her friends after school and needed a ride home.  Jane, you treated the babies to "Starbucks special water."  George said it was delicious.  Lila was suspicious as she thought it tasted just like regular water.
  • And so, my life as a chauffeur begins again.
  • We headed to Costco to do some grocery shopping and get stocked up for lunches.  We actually had a really fun time there.
  • Lila, you had a big breakdown just before bedtime about going to school.  Now, this was what I was expecting today.  You said that you'll just miss me too much and all you want to do is snuggle me all day.  We talked about choosing your thoughts.  About deciding to think about the awesome stuff at school instead of the sad things you'll miss at home.  Hopefully you'll be able to start doing that.
