bunny ears
  • Oh boy.  It was hard to get up and out the door for school this morning.  Jane, you came to wake me up to let me know you had forgotten, but had to be at school at 7:15 this morning.  Wow.  That was a startling beginning back to our routine.
  • Katie, you were actually nervous about going back.  I was surprised since you kept in pretty close contact with your friends over the break.
  • Lila, you were so sad.  You wanted nothing to do with it.  But you got up and got yourself dressed and survived the day.  You looked super cute though because you asked for two braids, and then wore your bunny ears.  You asked me to come early to pick you up, so I did.  I really don't mind doing that for you.  It seems to be what you need to make it through the day, and really, 20 minutes is nothing to give you.
  • George, you were delighted to get rid of the girls.  When I strapped you back into your seat to come back home after dropping Lila off, you smiled and said, "It's just you and me.  Me and you," then sighed a contented sigh.  Indeed, I have missed our quiet days together.  I cleaned and cleaned this morning and you played and played.  It was pretty perfect.
  • Katie, you had soccer practice tonight and Lila came with us.  We stopped in at Auntie Georgia's to drop off a container and a card grandma Laura had mailed to our house for her.  Lila, you had the oddest reaction while we were there.  You wouldn't leave my side, and started crying after about ten minutes, wanting to go home.  It was so weird.  You usually love being there.  We left, then while we waited for Katie to finish soccer, I wrapped you up like a baby burrito and snuggled you and talked.  It came out that before spring break, your class had a talk about touching because some people were lifting other people's shirts to tickle their tummies, and your teacher told you that wasn't appropriate for school, but would be ok with your family.  She said that everyone needed to keep their hands and feet to themselves at all times.  You really take rules to heart, so in your mind, NOBODY should touch you EVER, except the six of us.  You thought you were being naughty and would get in trouble if anyone else touched you.  You were really worried someone would touch you.  Poor thing!  Once I understood the problem, we talked about "your body, your rules."  You get to decide if someone can hug you or touch you.  You're in charge of your own body.  It's ok to hug people when you want to.  It's ok to tickle people if they're ok with it.  It's ok to sit close to someone you love.  You're also allowed to say no if you don't want someone to touch you.  It's 100% your decision.  You seemed quite relieved to hear that.
