summer reading

summer reading
  • Katie, you had a massage this morning.  You've been asking for one for a while.  When I picked you up, you looked completely blissed out.
  • We headed to the library after and picked up some new books.  You've been reading a TON this summer and you already worked through your last stack of books.  I decided to get a book that I've been meaning to read for a while.  Auntie Georgia's sister Janice loves it so much and recommends it to everyone she knows.  It's called All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.  I actually couldn't remember what it was called, so I called auntie Georgia, but she couldn't remember either, so she called her sister up in Yellowknife, got the name of the book and called me back.  It made me laugh.  I'm looking forward to reading it.
  • Katie, I made you stop by the Mountain Ash tree for a couple photos.  I really love the berries on them.  So pretty.
  • Jane, you worked again today from 11-3.  You said you made a couple friends today.  That's great! They also happen to be 17 year old boys, both of who volunteered to train you.  Hahaha.  I'd volunteer to train you too, you pretty little gal!
  • George, you were volatile today, so you and I laid down for a nap together.  I can't get over how sweet you are sometimes.  As you fell asleep, you put your soft little hand on my arm and rubbed it so lightly.  It was delicious.
  • Jane, you made dinner tonight.  Yeung Chow style fried rice with shrimp.  Wow.  It was delicious!  I'm going to have to step up my cooking game when I take the kitchen back in September.
  • It's supposed to get really hot for the next few days.  I'm not looking forward to it.  I really don't do well in the heat.  I'm going to have to do a survey to see which of my friends have air conditioning and schedule a bunch of visits!
  • I'm really grateful for Auntie Becca.  She's a pretty terrific person, and I'm lucky to have her for a sister.  It's a beautiful thing to have a sister to talk to when shit happens because honestly, no one loves you and knows you like your sister.  There have been a lot of times when I couldn't tell something to anyone but her because there wouldn't be anyone else who would get it.  I hope you guys find that in each other as you grow into adults.
